How do I add a book?
Open Library and tap +. LookItUp opens PDF, EPUB, Word (.docx), PowerPoint (.pptx), text and Markdown files. Your files stay on your device.
Why can't I select words in my PDF?
Scanned PDFs are pictures of pages, so they have no text to select. You can still read them in LookItUp, but tapping words needs a PDF with real text.
How do I save a word?
Tap a word while you read (or drag over a phrase), then tap Add. You can also add a word yourself in My words with +.
How does practice work?
In My words, tap Practice. Swipe right if you know the word, left to see it again. Words you know come back less often, so each round shows the words you need most.
Your cat
Practice feeds your cat, reading gives it a drink, and petting gives it love. Name your cat in You → Your cat’s name. Turn reminders on or off, and pick their time, in You → Reminders.
Save words from your browser
Safari on iPhone and iPad comes with the LookItUp app. You → Save from your browser shows each step with pictures. More help: LookItUp for your browser. Saving from a browser is part of LookItUp Plus.
LookItUp Plus
LookItUp is free with up to 20 saved words and 3 of your own books. LookItUp Plus removes these limits and links Safari and Chrome to your app.
- Cancel: on your iPhone or iPad open Settings → your name → Subscriptions → LookItUp Plus. Cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends.
- Restore on a new device: open the LookItUp Plus screen (You → LookItUp Plus) and tap Restore purchases.
- Refunds are handled by Apple: reportaproblem.apple.com.
Your data
LookItUp has no accounts. Your books, words and progress live on your device, so deleting the app deletes them. Before that, you can save your words with You → Export my words. To delete words waiting on our server from a browser, open You → Save from your browser and unlink. Read the privacy policy.
